Margaret Tate is the editor everyone at the publishing house is terrified of. She is also Canadian, her visa has lapsed, and she is about to be deported. In the immigration office she announces she is engaged to her assistant Andrew, who finds this out at the same time as the immigration officer. The Proposal is the film that made Ryan Reynolds a romantic lead, and it is the last big hit of the classic studio rom-com era.
What Happens In Sitka
To make the lie stick, they fly to Andrew’s family home in Sitka, Alaska, for his grandmother’s ninetieth birthday. Margaret discovers the family owns most of the town. Grandma Annie, played by Betty White, puts her in the family wedding dress. Andrew’s father does not trust her. There is a bachelorette party at a bar with the town’s only stripper, Ramone, played by Oscar Nunez, who is also the waiter and the shop owner. A dance in the woods with Annie. The naked collision in the hallway. And a wedding that Margaret stops.
Why It Keeps Getting Streamed
Bullock and Reynolds have the sharpest back-and-forth of any pair that decade, and the chemistry is why it made 317 million dollars. Betty White was 87 and stole the film, which restarted her career. The Alaska scenes were shot in Massachusetts. “Get Low” in the forest is the clip people share.
