Ella of Frell was given a gift at birth by a careless fairy named Lucinda: obedience. Any order, from anyone, she must obey. Her mother dies, her father remarries, and her stepsister Hattie works out the secret and uses it. Ella leaves to find Lucinda and have the curse removed. Ella Enchanted is Cinderella with a real problem at the centre, and Anne Hathaway sings in it.
What Happens On The Road
Prince Charmont, played by Hugh Dancy, is the most popular man in the kingdom and has a fan club. Ella is the only girl who tells him off, which he likes. His uncle, Sir Edgar, played by Cary Elwes, is running the kingdom and has banned elves from doing anything but singing. A talking book, an elf who wants to be a lawyer, a giant and a snake named Heston are the road company. The ending is Ella ordered to kill the prince at midnight, and the question is whether she can break the gift.
Why It Is Worth It
Hathaway made this between the two Princess Diaries films and performs Somebody to Love and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart. Minnie Driver is the house fairy. Joanna Lumley is the stepmother. Eric Idle narrates. It was shot in Ireland. Gail Carson Levine’s novel, which won a Newbery Honor, is darker and fans of it have opinions about the changes.
