A boy is home sick and his grandfather arrives with a book. The book has fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love and miracles, and the boy agrees to listen as long as there is no kissing. The Princess Bride flopped in 1987 and has since become one of the most loved films in America, which is roughly how it works in the film itself.
What Happens In Florin
Buttercup loves the farm boy Westley. Westley goes to sea and is reported killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. Five years later Buttercup is engaged to Prince Humperdinck and is kidnapped by a Sicilian genius, a giant and a Spanish swordsman named Inigo Montoya, who has spent twenty years looking for the six-fingered man who killed his father. A man in black follows them up the Cliffs of Insanity. The Fire Swamp, the Pit of Despair, Miracle Max and the storming of the castle follow.
Why Every Line Is Quoted
William Goldman adapted his own novel and kept the voice. “Inconceivable”, “As you wish”, “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya” and “Have fun storming the castle” are all here. Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin trained for months to do the duel without doubles. Andre the Giant was in constant pain from his back and did it anyway.
