The film opens with a rewrite of history: Apollo 11 was sent to the moon to investigate a crashed Cybertronian ship, and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin found Sentinel Prime inside it. Forty years later the Autobots bring him back to life, and that turns out to be the worst decision they ever make. Dark of the Moon is the one with the Chicago battle, nearly an hour long, which is still the biggest set piece Michael Bay has ever put on screen.
What Happens In The Third Film
Sam Witwicky has graduated, cannot find a job, and has a new girlfriend played by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley after Megan Fox left the series. Sentinel Prime, voiced by Leonard Nimoy, has a plan to bring Cybertron to Earth through a space bridge and use humans as labour. The Decepticons take Chicago. The final hour is Sam, the NEST soldiers and the Autobots fighting through a city that is being torn apart, including the sequence where a skyscraper tips over with the soldiers inside it.
Why It Was The Biggest Of The Series
It made 1.12 billion dollars worldwide and was shot in native 3D rather than converted, which is why the Chicago sequence looked as good as it did in cinemas. Buzz Aldrin plays himself. It was Shia LaBeouf’s last Transformers film.
