The film starts after the scam. We never see what it was, only the wreckage: every kid in the cul-de-sac injured, furious and hunting for the Eds. The three of them steal Eddy’s brother’s car and drive out of the neighbourhood for the first time in the show’s history, heading for wherever Eddy’s brother lives. The Big Picture Show is the series finale, and it answers the one question the show spent ten years dodging: who is Eddy’s brother?
What Happens On The Road
The kids follow in a pack led by Kevin and Rolf, with the Kanker sisters on their own hunt. The Eds cross a sunflower field, a swamp, a factory and a theme park called Mondo A-Go Go. Double D nearly gives up on Eddy for good. Ed drives. When they finally reach the brother’s trailer, the man turns out to be nothing like the legend Eddy built, and the ending gives Eddy the one honest moment he has ever had in front of the other kids.
Why Fans Rate It So Highly
It was two years in production and is drawn with more care than the series, with wider backgrounds and a real road-movie structure. Danny Antonucci got to end the show on his own terms, and the final scene in the cul-de-sac, with everyone accepting the Eds for the first time, is the ending the series earned.
