Action Animation Sci-Fi

Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Kitty Pryde, Kurt Wagner and Evan Daniels live at the Xavier Institute and go to Bayville High School, where nobody knows what they are. Across town, Mystique runs the Brotherhood, with Toad, Avalanche, Blob and Quicksilver, out of a boarding house. X-Men: Evolution turned the X-Men into a high-school show, and it is the version that made Wolverine the grumpy teacher rather than the lead.

How The Four Seasons Play Out

Season one is the recruiting year: Nightcrawler arrives, Rogue switches sides, Kitty learns to phase. Season two adds the New Mutants and ends with the Sentinel attack that outs mutants to the world. Season three is the fallout, with the school turning on the X-Men and Magneto’s Acolytes arriving. Season four is Apocalypse, with the Horsemen revealed as Storm, Magneto, Mystique and Professor X. The show was cancelled after 52 episodes with a fifth season planned, and the final scene shows glimpses of what it would have been.

Why It Still Has Fans

This is where X-23 was created, before she appeared in the comics. The Rogue of this series, a goth kid who cannot touch anyone, is many people’s favourite version. The animation was done at Film Roman with a clean, angular style that has aged better than most 2000s cartoons.
