John Form gives his wife Mia a rare porcelain doll for the nursery. That night the neighbours are murdered by their daughter, Annabelle, and her boyfriend, members of a cult. They break into the Forms’ house. Annabelle dies in the nursery holding the doll, and her blood runs into its eye. Annabelle is the first spin-off from The Conjuring, made for 6.5 million dollars, and it took 257 million.
What Happens After The Baby Is Born
The Forms move to an apartment in Pasadena. The doll comes with them, after Mia threw it away. The sewing machine runs by itself. The stove catches fire. A figure in the basement, in the lift that will not move. Evelyn, the bookshop owner played by Alfre Woodard, explains that something has attached itself to the doll and wants a soul. Father Perez takes the doll to the church and does not make it inside. The demon wants the baby, and the ending is about who gives their soul instead.
Why It Was Made And Why It Grew
The real Annabelle doll in the Warrens’ museum is a Raggedy Ann. The film’s porcelain version was designed to be worse. John R. Leonetti was James Wan’s cinematographer on The Conjuring. The lift scene and the basement with the lights are the set pieces. Annabelle: Creation, the prequel, came in 2017 and is the better film, and Annabelle Comes Home followed.
