Akash is a pianist in Pune who is pretending to be blind, because he thinks it will help his art. It gets him a job at a restaurant and an invitation from Pramod Sinha, a 1970s film star, to play at his flat for his wife’s anniversary. He arrives, is let in by the wife, Simi, and plays the whole set while a dead man lies on the floor and a second man hides in the room. Andhadhun won the National Award for Best Hindi Film, and Ayushmann Khurrana won Best Actor for it.
What Happens After The Piano
Akash goes to the police. The inspector is the lover. Simi works out that Akash can see. He is blinded for real. From there the film goes through a doctor who sells organs, a lottery-ticket seller, a rickshaw driver and a kidnapping that goes sideways, and every character in it is a liar. The last scene, in Europe, with a cane and a can, is still argued about.
Why It Is The Best Hindi Thriller Of Its Decade
Sriram Raghavan adapted a French short film, L’Accordeur, and built a feature around it. Tabu’s Simi, who says Hello with a smile and kills with the same one, is one of the great villains. Amit Trivedi’s piano pieces are Akash’s own compositions in the story. Radhika Apte is the girlfriend who finds out. It made 456 crore worldwide, much of it in China.
