The Davison family gathers at their new country house for the parents’ anniversary. Four adult children, four partners, a lot of resentment at dinner. A crossbow bolt comes through the window. The men outside wear a lamb mask, a fox mask and a tiger mask, and they have planned this. Erin, Crispian’s Australian girlfriend, played by Sharni Vinson, does not panic. You’re Next is a home-invasion film where the final girl is better at it than the invaders, and the reveal of why they are there is the point.
What Happens In The House
The family dies in ways that are meant to look like a slasher film. Erin sets traps: a log over a door, nails on the stairs, a blender. She was raised in a survivalist camp in the outback and this is the first time it has been useful. The killers start making mistakes. The reason for the attack is inside the family, and the last scene, with a police officer and a front door, is a joke the whole film has been building.
Why Horror Fans Rate It
Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett made it before The Guest and after years of micro-budget films. Barbara Crampton, from Re-Animator, is the mother. The cast is mostly indie directors: Joe Swanberg, Ti West, Amy Seimetz, Larry Fessenden. Dwight Twilley’s Looking for the Magic plays on a loop. It was finished in 2011 and not released until 2013, which is why the year is argued about.
