Tess arrives at a rental house in a dead Detroit neighbourhood at night. The key is not in the lockbox. A man named Keith answers the door; he has booked the same house through a different site. He offers her the bed and takes the sofa. The next morning she goes down to the basement for toilet paper and finds a door, and behind it a corridor, and at the end of it a room with a bed and a camera. Barbarian is the film nobody should have spoiled for you, and the trailer did not, which is why it was a hit.
What Happens Under The House
The film is in three parts. The first is Tess and Keith. The second begins in Los Angeles with AJ, a sitcom actor played by Justin Long, who has just been accused of something and owns the Detroit house. The third is 1980 and the man who built the tunnels. What is under the house is not explained so much as shown, and the figure that comes out of the dark wants to be a mother. The water tower at the end is the biggest scene.
Why Horror Fans Argued About It
Zach Cregger was in the sketch group The Whitest Kids U’ Know and this was his first solo film. Bill Skarsgard is cast as Keith because you expect him to be the monster. Justin Long’s AJ is the most hated man of 2022. It was made for 4.5 million dollars and took 45 million from a word-of-mouth September release. Cregger’s follow-up, Weapons, came in 2025.
