Action Adventure Sci-Fi

Jason is a quarterback on house arrest after a prank. Kimberly is a cheerleader who has been thrown out of her squad. Billy is on the spectrum and builds things. Zack looks after a sick mother in a trailer. Trini is new and keeps to herself. They meet in detention, follow Billy to an old mine, and dig up five coloured coins that make them stronger than they should be. Power Rangers (2017) spends ninety minutes on the five of them before anyone puts on a suit, and that is why some people love it and some people never forgave it.

What Happens In Angel Grove

Under the mine is a buried spaceship with Zordon, played by Bryan Cranston as a face in a wall, and Alpha 5, voiced by Bill Hader. Rita Repulsa, played by Elizabeth Banks, has been dead at the bottom of the sea for 65 million years and has just been fished up. She wants the Zeo Crystal, which is under a Krispy Kreme in the town centre, and the Rangers cannot morph until they trust each other. The last half hour is the Zords and the Megazord against Goldar in the middle of Main Street.

Why It Is A Different Kind Of Rangers Film

The 1993 series was a toy commercial. This is a teen drama first, closer to The Breakfast Club than to the show, with the campfire scene where the five admit who they are as its real centre. Billy was the first openly autistic superhero in a studio film and Trini the first openly LGBTQ one. The sequel never got made.
