Phillipe Gaston, a thief called the Mouse, is the first man ever to escape the dungeons of Aquila. On the road he is saved by a black knight with a hawk on his arm. At night the knight disappears and a woman appears with a wolf. The knight is Navarre, the woman is Isabeau, and the Bishop of Aquila cursed them both when Isabeau refused him. Ladyhawke is a medieval romance where the lovers share a few seconds of each other at dawn and dusk, and the story is about getting those seconds back.
What Happens On The Way To Aquila
Navarre wants to kill the bishop. A drunk monk, Imperius, played by Leo McKern, who betrayed them to the bishop, knows how to break the curse: they must face the bishop together, as humans, on a day without night and a night without day, which is an eclipse. Phillipe has to get them back into the city he escaped. The cathedral finale, with the wolf, the hawk and the sword, is shot in a real Italian church.
Why It Is Loved And Why People Argue About The Score
Michelle Pfeiffer, two years before The Witches of Eastwick, and Rutger Hauer, three after Blade Runner, are the couple. Matthew Broderick was shot the same year as Ferris Bueller and plays the Mouse as a stand-up. The soundtrack by Alan Parsons is 1980s synth-rock over a medieval story, and people either love or hate it. Richard Donner shot it in the Italian Alps and Lombardy castles.
