Terri Fletcher sings in church in Flagstaff, Arizona, and her brother Paul films her. On the way home from a concert, a drunk driver hits their car and Paul is killed. Terri stops singing. Then a letter arrives: Paul had sent her tape to Bristol-Hillman, a summer conservatory in Los Angeles, and she is in. Her father says no. Her mother and aunt say go, and do not tell him. Raise Your Voice is the Hilary Duff film about grief, and it is more serious than anything else she made in that run.
What Happens In Los Angeles
The school is a competition: the best student at the end of the summer gets a scholarship. Terri rooms with Denise, a violinist from Chicago who does not want a friend. Jay, an English guitarist played by Oliver James, writes a song with her. Robin, the diva, is the rival. Mr Torvald, played by John Corbett, is the teacher who pushes. Terri’s father finds out and arrives at the showcase, which is where she sings the song for Paul with Paul’s video playing behind her.
Why Duff Fans Pick It
Duff sings Someone’s Watching Over Me and Jericho live. Jason Ritter is Paul and has about fifteen minutes, which is enough. Rebecca De Mornay is the aunt. It is the only one of her films where the plot is not a joke, and it has the same director as A Walk to Remember’s producers wanted.
