Danny and Wheeler sell Minotaur energy drink at schools. Danny is miserable and his girlfriend has just left him. Wheeler is in the minotaur costume and is fine with everything. Danny drives the truck into a statue, they are arrested, and Danny’s ex, a lawyer, gets them community service with Sturdy Wings, a big-brother programme. Role Models is the David Wain comedy that made money, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s live-action role-player is the heart of it.
What Happens With The Kids
Danny gets Augie, a sixteen-year-old who spends his life in LAIRE, a live-action medieval battle game in a park. Wheeler gets Ronnie, a ten-year-old who swears constantly and hits people. Jane Lynch runs Sturdy Wings as a recovering addict who never stops talking about it. Danny learns the rules of LAIRE and the king is a cheat. The ending is the LAIRE battle royale with Danny, Wheeler, Augie and Ronnie dressed as KISS, and the Kiss song over it.
Why It Is Quoted
Ronnie’s Ben Affleck line. “Whispering eye.” Jane Lynch’s whole performance, which got her Glee. Paul Rudd co-wrote it and plays Danny as a man who argues with baristas about the word venti. Ken Jeong is the king of LAIRE. Elizabeth Banks is the ex. It was shot in Los Angeles parks with a real LARP community as extras.
