Alison Scott has just been promoted to on-camera at E!. Ben Stone lives with four friends in a house with a half-built website that catalogues nudity in films, and lives off an injury settlement. They meet at a club, go home together, and have a misunderstanding about the condom. Eight weeks later Alison throws up on air. Knocked Up is Judd Apatow’s second film and his biggest, and it is the one that made Seth Rogen a leading man.
What Happens Over Nine Months
Alison tells Ben. Ben tries. They go to doctors, buy baby books, fight over him reading them, and date for real. Alison’s sister Debbie and her husband Pete, played by Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd, are the married couple whose marriage is the film’s second plot, and the trip to Las Vegas with mushrooms and Cirque du Soleil is where Pete’s secret comes out. The birth, with the wrong doctor on call and Ben finally taking charge, is the last twenty minutes.
Why It Was Argued About
Katherine Heigl called it sexist after it came out and the argument has not stopped. Apatow wrote Pete and Debbie from his own marriage, and the Rudd-Mann scenes were spun off into This Is 40. Ben’s housemates are Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Jay Baruchel and Martin Starr, with a beard bet. Kristen Wiig as the E! executive has one scene and owns it.
