In 1693 the Sanderson sisters were hanged in Salem for draining the life from a child. They left a curse: on a Halloween with a full moon, a virgin lights the black flame candle and they come back. In 1993 Max Dennison, new in town and trying to impress a girl, lights it. Hocus Pocus lost money in July 1993, got shown on TV every October, and is now the biggest Halloween film Disney has.
What Happens On Halloween Night
Winifred, Mary and Sarah Sanderson have until sunrise to suck the life out of a child or they turn to dust. Max, his little sister Dani, his crush Allison and a talking black cat named Binx, who has been a cat since 1693, spend the night keeping the sisters away from the town’s children. The sisters ride a vacuum cleaner and a mop, Winifred sings I Put a Spell on You at a parents’ Halloween party to enchant the adults, and the showdown is in a graveyard where the witches cannot set foot.

She has said Winifred is the most fun she has had on a film. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Come Little Children song is still unsettling. Thora Birch was 11. The sequel took 29 years and brought all three back.
