Grace marries Alex Le Domas in his family’s mansion. The Le Domases made their fortune in board games. At midnight she is told the tradition: a new member of the family draws a card from a puzzle box and plays the game it names. Most cards say chess or Old Maid. Grace draws hide and seek. The family arms itself with crossbows and axes. Ready or Not is 95 minutes of a bride in a torn wedding dress and Converse, and Samara Weaving became a star from it.
What Happens Before Dawn
The rule is that if Grace survives until sunrise, the family dies, because of a deal an ancestor made with a Mr Le Bail. The family is mostly incompetent: the coked-up sister kills three maids by mistake, the brother-in-law looks up how to use a crossbow on YouTube, Aunt Helene with the axe is the only one who means it. Alex is split between his wife and his family. Daniel, played by Adam Brody, drinks and is the only one with a conscience. The ending is at sunrise and it is exactly what the deal promised.
Why It Got The Directors Scream
Radio Silence, the directing team, had made V/H/S segments before this, and were handed the Scream franchise because of it. Weaving screams, swears and bleeds through the whole film and is funny doing it. Andie MacDowell is the mother-in-law. The hand through the nail. The goat pit. The last line is the right last line.
