Happy Gilmore cannot skate and cannot score, but he can hit a puck through a wall. His grandmother owes 270,000 dollars in back taxes and the IRS has taken her house. Happy discovers that his hockey swing drives a golf ball 400 yards, and the tour is the fastest way to the money. Happy Gilmore is the Adam Sandler film that even people who do not like Adam Sandler films like.
What Happens On The Tour
Chubbs Peterson, a former pro who lost a hand to an alligator, becomes his coach. Shooter McGavin, the tour’s leading player, becomes his enemy. Happy fights Bob Barker on the course and loses. He learns to putt by going to his happy place, which involves his grandmother winning a slot machine and Virginia, the tour’s PR woman, in lingerie. The finale is the Tour Championship with a TV tower in the way of his last putt.
Why It Became A Sports Film People Actually Quote
Christopher McDonald’s Shooter is the best villain Sandler has had. “The price is wrong” and “Just tap it in” are permanent. Carl Weathers as Chubbs gets the best exit of any supporting character. Ben Stiller is the nursing home orderly. The 2025 sequel on Netflix brought back everyone still living.
