Seth and Evan have been best friends since childhood and are going to different colleges in the autumn. Tonight there is a party, and Seth has promised Jules he will bring the alcohol. Their friend Fogell has a fake ID. The ID says his name is McLovin, no first name, from Hawaii, aged 25. Superbad was written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg when they were thirteen, about themselves, and the film kept their names.
What Happens Over One Night
Fogell gets the liquor store robbed while he is in it, is picked up by two police officers played by Rogen and Bill Hader, and spends the night riding around with them shooting at stop signs. Seth and Evan end up at a different party where Seth gets hit by a car twice and Evan has to sing to a room of coked-up men. They make it to Jules’ party, Seth and Evan have the fight that has been coming all film, and the ending in the sleeping bags is the sweetest thing in any Apatow production.
Why McLovin Took Over
Christopher Mintz-Plasse had never acted before and was 17, so his mother had to be on set for his scenes with Martha MacIsaac. Emma Stone made her film debut as Jules. The dialogue was largely improvised around the script, and the period-blood scene was in the original draft from when the writers were in school.
