Cody Banks has been through CIA training at a summer camp that was not a summer camp. He can drive, fight and skydive. He cannot speak to a girl without stammering. His first mission is to befriend Natalie Connors, whose father is building nanobots for a villain, and to do that he has to go to her prep school. Agent Cody Banks was made when Malcolm in the Middle and Lizzie McGuire were the two biggest things on kids’ TV, and it put the two leads together.
What Happens On The Mission
Cody’s handler is Ronica Miles, played by Angie Harmon in a wardrobe the film is very aware of. The villain Brinkman, played by Ian McShane, has a henchman named Molay who ends up eaten by the nanobots. Cody gets a car, a snowboard chase, a fight in a kitchen, and a party at Natalie’s house where he has to be a spy and a boy at once. Hilary Duff’s Natalie is kidnapped and the finale is in an ice-cave lab. Cody’s parents, meanwhile, think he is at a maths camp.
Why It Is Worth A Rewatch
Frankie Muniz did many of his own stunts. Keith David is the CIA director. Harald Zwart went on to The Karate Kid. The sequel, Destination London, came a year later without Duff. It is a spy film for people who were twelve in 2003, and it still works for them.
