Cady Heron has been home-schooled in Africa for sixteen years. Her first day at North Shore High she is adopted by two outcasts, Janis and Damian, and then by the Plastics, the three most popular girls in school, led by Regina George. Janis has a plan: Cady stays in, spies, and destroys Regina from the inside. Mean Girls was written by Tina Fey from a parenting book called Queen Bees and Wannabes, and it is the most quoted teen comedy of its decade.
What Happens With The Burn Book
Cady falls for Aaron Samuels, Regina’s ex, which Regina does not allow. The sabotage campaign involves Kalteen bars, a four-way phone call and getting Gretchen to crack. Cady slowly becomes a Plastic for real. Then the Burn Book, the Plastics’ private notebook of insults about every girl in school, gets photocopied and posted in the halls, and Ms Norbury, played by Fey, has to stage a trust-fall intervention in the gym. Regina gets hit by a bus. She is fine.
Why It Is Still Everywhere
October 3rd is Mean Girls Day. “On Wednesdays we wear pink”, “She doesn’t even go here” and “Stop trying to make fetch happen” have outlived the film itself. Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lizzy Caplan all got their starts here, and the Broadway musical and its 2024 film came from this script.
