Bobby Boucher is 31, lives with his Mama in the bayou, and has been the water boy for the University of Louisiana Cougars since he was 18. The players bully him. Coach Red Beaulieu fires him. He gets a job with the South Central Louisiana State Mud Dogs, whose coach tells him to tackle the next person who insults him. He does. The Waterboy made 161 million dollars in 1998 and was Adam Sandler’s first number-one opening.
What Happens With The Mud Dogs
Bobby cannot play unless he channels his anger, so Coach Klein, played by Henry Winkler, tells him to picture the people who hurt him. The Mud Dogs go from 0-9 to the Bourbon Bowl. Mama, played by Kathy Bates, thinks football is the devil and does not know he is playing. Vicki Vallencourt, played by Fairuza Balk, has been in prison and likes him. The secret comes out, Mama fakes a coma, and the Bourbon Bowl is against the Cougars.
Why It Keeps Being Rewatched
“You can do it” shouted from the stands by Rob Schneider was born here. “Water sucks, Gatorade is better”. The Colonel Sanders look-alike. Kathy Bates, an Oscar winner, plays Mama absolutely straight and it is the best thing in the film. Lawrence Taylor and Bill Cowher play themselves.
