Eddy wants jawbreakers. Jawbreakers cost twenty-five cents. Every episode of Ed, Edd n Eddy is a scheme to get that quarter out of the other kids in the cul-de-sac, and every scheme fails. It ran for ten years on Cartoon Network, from 1999 to 2009, which makes it the longest-running original series the network ever made.

Who The Three Eds Are

Eddy is the short one with the big mouth and the plans. Edd, called Double D, is the one in the sock hat who does the engineering and apologises for everything. Ed is the tall one who loves gravy, buttered toast and monster movies. Around them are Kevin on his bike, Rolf and his goat, Jonny with his plank of wood, Nazz, Jimmy, Sarah who is Ed’s terrifying little sister, and the Kanker sisters in the trailer park who want to marry the Eds. No adult ever appears on screen in the entire run.

Why The Animation Looks The Way It Does

Danny Antonucci’s studio drew the outlines with a deliberate wobble, so every character’s lines shiver constantly. It was inspired by the look of 1930s cartoons and it gives the show a hand-made feel no other series of that era had. The dialogue is fast, the physical comedy is brutal, and a lot of the jokes land harder for adults than they did at the time.
