Berke Landers has been with Allison for sixteen months and she dumps him for a boy-band singer who has moved to town. His parents host a TV show about relationships. His best friend Felix’s little sister Kelly, played by Kirsten Dunst, likes him and he has not noticed. Allison auditions for the school musical, so Berke does too. Get Over It is a 2001 teen comedy built on Shakespeare, and Martin Short as the drama teacher is the reason to watch.
What Happens With The Musical
The show is A Midsummer Night’s Rockin’ Eve, a musical version of the Dream with songs by the teacher, Dr Desmond Forrest-Oates, who refers to himself constantly and once worked off-Broadway. Berke is cast as Lysander. Striker, the boy-band singer played by Shane West with an English accent, is Demetrius. Kelly rehearses Berke and writes him a song. The actual Dream plot, with the wrong people in love, plays out in the cast during rehearsals, and the opening night is where it resolves, with a fairy on a wire.
Who Is In It
Ben Foster, before everything serious he did, is the lead. Sisqo is Berke’s friend Dennis and performs Thong Song in a dream sequence. Colin Hanks is the other friend. Swoosie Kurtz and Ed Begley Jr. are the TV parents. Carmen Electra and Vitamin C have cameos. The film is 87 minutes and does not waste any.
