Gary and Wyatt have no friends, no girlfriends and a weekend alone in Wyatt’s house. Inspired by Frankenstein on TV, they feed a doll, magazine cuttings and a lightning strike into Wyatt’s computer, and Lisa walks out of the bathroom in a crop top. She has the powers of a genie and the judgement of an older sister. Weird Science is the John Hughes film where he stopped being careful, and the party is the whole film.
What Happens At The Party
Lisa takes the boys to a blues bar, buys them a Porsche, and turns Wyatt’s brother Chet, a military-school sadist played by Bill Paxton, into a pile of slime. She throws a party in Wyatt’s house that the whole school attends, with a missile coming through the floor, the grandparents in the kitchen cupboard, and a gang of mutant bikers that Lisa summons so the boys have to stand up to someone. Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Rusler are the bullies who end up as their friends.
Why It Is Different From The Other Hughes Films
It is a cartoon rather than a drama, and it was made the same year as The Breakfast Club, which shows how fast Hughes worked. Kelly LeBrock plays Lisa as a woman who is amused by all of it. Oingo Boingo’s title song was a hit. A TV series ran for five seasons in the 1990s. “It’s purely sexual” is still quoted.
