Morticia gives birth to Pubert, a baby with a moustache. Wednesday and Pugsley try to kill him. The family hires a nanny, Debbie Jellinsky, who is a serial killer of rich husbands and has her eye on Fester. To get the children out of the way, Debbie has them sent to Camp Chippewa, the most cheerful place in America. Addams Family Values is the rare sequel that is better than the first film, and Wednesday at summer camp is why.
What Happens At Camp Chippewa
Wednesday is forced into a Thanksgiving pageant playing Pocahontas, is sent to the Harmony Hut to watch Disney films, and comes out smiling. The smile is the scariest thing in the film. Her speech during the pageant, and what the Native American campers do to the pilgrims’ set afterwards, is the best scene in either film. She also meets Joel Glicker, a boy with allergies, and has her first relationship. Meanwhile Debbie marries Fester, tries to electrocute him, and ends up explaining her whole life to the family while they are strapped into electric chairs.
Why Joan Cusack Should Have Been Nominated
Her Debbie, in pastel suits with a Malibu Barbie childhood grudge, is a complete comic villain. Raul Julia was already ill and it was his last big film. Paul Rudd makes an early appearance. The baby’s moustache was real hair glued on every day.
