Claire and Hailey have one summer left before Hailey’s mother moves them to Australia. After a storm, they find a mermaid in the pool of the beach club. Her name is Aquamarine, she has run away from an arranged marriage under the sea, and her father has given her three days to prove love exists. The lifeguard, Raymond, is the target. Aquamarine is the mermaid film for anyone who was twelve in 2006, and it is kinder than most films for that age.
What Happens In Three Days
Aquamarine gets legs by day and a tail when wet, which is a problem at a beach. The girls give her a makeover and tips from magazines. Cecilia, the mean girl, wants Raymond and finds out about the tail. There is a dance, a storm, and a jump off the pier. If Aquamarine wins, the girls get a wish, and the wish is the only reason Hailey is helping. The ending is the two friends deciding what to actually wish for.
Who Is In It
Emma Roberts, Julia’s niece, was 15 and this was her first lead. JoJo was a pop star with two hits and this was her only film. Sara Paxton is Aquamarine with blue streaks. It was shot in Queensland, Australia, standing in for Florida. The soundtrack has Teddy Geiger and JoJo’s own song. The film was based on Alice Hoffman’s novel.
