Billy Peltzer and Kate now work in Clamp Center, a Manhattan tower owned by a Donald Trump-style developer who wants to flatten the old Chinatown shop where Gizmo lives. Gizmo ends up in the building’s genetics lab, gets wet, and by the end of the day there are gremlins in the kitchens, the TV studio and the air ducts. Gremlins 2 is the sequel where Joe Dante was told to do whatever he wanted, and he did.

What The Gremlins Get Up To In Clamp Center

The lab run by Christopher Lee’s Dr Catheter gives the creatures serums that turn one into a bat, one into a spider hybrid, one into a vegetable, and one, Brain Gremlin, into a talking intellectual who gives a TV interview. There is a gremlin musical number, a scene where the film itself appears to break and the gremlins take over the projection booth, and a cameo from Hulk Hogan. The plot is just an excuse for the set pieces, and the film knows it.

Why Fans Rate It Above The Original

The first Gremlins was a dark suburban horror comedy. This one is a Looney Tunes short at feature length, complete with an opening and closing Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck segment drawn by Chuck Jones. It made less money than the original in 1990, but its reputation has only gone up since.
