Comedy Crime

A crime wave is hitting one precinct of the city and nobody can work out why that precinct. Commandant Lassard is told to bring in his best people, which means Hightower, Tackleberry, Jones, Hooks, Callahan and Fackler, and Captain Harris is told to supervise them, which he does badly. Police Academy 6 is the last film with most of the original cast and the only one with an actual whodunit in it.

What Happens In City Under Siege

The Wilson Heights Gang, three robbers with a van, are hitting jewellers and banks with inside information. The squad goes undercover: Jones and Hightower at a car dealership, Tackleberry and Hooks on a bus, Harris and Proctor as mimes. Jones does a Bruce Lee routine with full sound effects. The mastermind turns out to be someone high up with a property scheme, and the finale is a chase through the city on a crane.

Where It Sits In The Series

Steve Guttenberg had left two films earlier, so Matt McCoy’s Nick Lassard fills the lead. Bubba Smith and David Graf both bowed out after this one. It is 84 minutes, which is short even by Police Academy standards, and it was the last entry for five years until Mission to Moscow. If you grew up with the series, this one plays like a reunion episode.
