Brady and McKenzie are surfers at the end of a summer. Mack is leaving for a boarding school her aunt chose. On a last ride on a forty-foot wave, they go under and come up in 1962, inside Brady’s favourite film, Wet Side Story, where surfers and bikers have a musical turf war and nobody notices that it rains only in time with the songs. Teen Beach Movie was the most-watched cable film of 2013 and it is the one Disney Channel movie that works as a parody.
What Happens In Wet Side Story
The film’s leads, surfer Tanner and biker Lela, are supposed to fall in love, but they fall for Brady and Mack instead, which breaks the plot and means Brady and Mack cannot go home. Les Camembert and Dr Fusion, the villains, are trying to control the weather. Brady and Mack have to make Tanner and Lela see each other while the real world fades. The songs, Cruisin’ for a Bruisin’ and Surf Crazy, are deliberately exactly like Frankie Avalon films.
Why It Stands Out
Ross Lynch was at the top of Austin & Ally and Maia Mitchell was about to start The Fosters. Grace Phipps’ Lela is the best thing in it. The choreography is by the director, who did Flashdance. A sequel, Teen Beach 2, flipped it and brought the 1962 characters into the present.
