Mary Elizabeth Cep, who calls herself Lola, is moved by her mother from New York to Dellwood, New Jersey, which she treats as exile. Her favourite band, Sidarthur, is playing a farewell show in Manhattan. Carla Santini, the most popular girl at Dellwood High, has tickets. Lola does not. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen came out the same year as Mean Girls and is the Lindsay Lohan film people forget, and Megan Fox’s first big role.
What Happens Before The Concert
Lola lies about everything: that her father is dead, that she knows the band, that she has tickets. She wins the lead in the school play, a modern Pygmalion called Eliza Rocks, against Carla. She and her friend Ella, played by Alison Pill, go to New York for the concert, get thrown out of the club, and end up at the band’s afterparty at a loft, where the singer, Stu Wolff, is drunk and asleep in a doorway. The play and the lies both come due on the same night.
Why It Has A Following Anyway
The reviews were bad and the box office was fine. Lohan performs That Girl and Drama Queen on the soundtrack. Megan Fox as Carla, before Transformers, is already Megan Fox. Adam Garcia plays the rock star. Glenne Headly is the mother. It is 89 minutes of a sixteen-year-old lying her way through New Jersey, and that is the pitch.
