Emmet Brickowski wakes up, follows the instructions, buys overpriced coffee, listens to Everything Is Awesome and goes to work. After hours on the site he falls down a hole and finds a red brick stuck to his back, the Piece of Resistance. Wyldstyle, a master builder, thinks he is the Special. He is not. The Lego Movie was supposed to be a ninety-minute advert and turned out to be one of the best animated comedies of its decade.
What Happens Across The Worlds
Lord Business has the Kragle, a tube of superglue, and is going to freeze every Lego world in place on Taco Tuesday. Emmet, Wyldstyle, Batman, Vitruvius the blind wizard voiced by Morgan Freeman, Unikitty, Benny the 1980s spaceman and Metalbeard go through the Old West, Cloud Cuckoo Land and the ocean to stop him. Then the film pulls back, and the last fifteen minutes are set in a basement in the real world, with Will Ferrell, and change what everything before it meant.
Why It Got Snubbed And Why It Did Not Matter
It was not nominated for the Animated Feature Oscar and the backlash was louder than the award. Phil Lord and Chris Miller made every frame look like real bricks, including the explosions and water. Will Arnett’s Batman got his own film. “Everything Is Awesome” was nominated for Best Song and is still in your head.
