Alex Browning is on a school trip to Paris. Before takeoff he sees the plane tear itself apart over the runway, panics, and is thrown off along with six classmates and a teacher. The plane takes off without them and explodes. Then the survivors start dying, one at a time, in the order they would have died on the plane. Final Destination has no killer. The villain is the design of the world, and the film became a franchise by making a bathroom feel dangerous.
What Happens To The Survivors
Tod dies in a bathroom with a clothesline. Ms Lewton dies in her kitchen in a sequence involving vodka, a computer monitor, a knife and a chair. Alex and Clear Rivers, played by Ali Larter, work out the order and try to intervene. Tony Todd plays the mortician who explains that Death has a design and does not like to be cheated. The Paris coda tells you that it does not end.
Why It Started A Franchise
James Wong and Glen Morgan came from The X-Files and the script started as an X-Files episode. The plane crash was shot practically with a fuselage on hydraulics and is still frightening. It made 112 million dollars and five sequels followed, including Bloodlines in 2025. Devon Sawa and Seann William Scott were both at the start of their careers.
