Tucker and Dale have bought a vacation home in the woods, which is a shack with a chainsaw collection. A group of college students in a van pass them at a petrol station and decide they are the murderers from every horror film they have seen. That night Dale rescues Allison from drowning, and the students see a hillbilly dragging a girl into a boat. Tucker and Dale vs Evil is the horror film told from the killers’ point of view, except they are not the killers.
What Happens At The Cabin
The students decide to rescue Allison. One runs onto a sharpened branch. One dives into a wood chipper that Tucker is operating, head first. One shoots himself. Each time, Tucker and Dale, who are trying to help, end up covered in blood and holding the weapon. The police arrive and it gets worse. Chad, the student leader played by Jesse Moss, turns out to have his own history with hillbillies, and is the real villain. Allison and Dale, meanwhile, have been playing board games.
Why It Is A Cult Film
Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine play two of the kindest men in any horror film. The wood chipper scene is the one. The film was made in Alberta for under five million dollars, premiered at Sundance, and has been passed hand to hand for fifteen years. Eli Craig, Sally Field’s son, wrote and directed. A sequel has been announced and cancelled more than once.
