Mandy and Andrew are a married couple who move from Montana to Palm Springs for his new job. Their neighbours Patrick and Sophie are friendly, tanned, and swingers, and within a few weeks Mandy and Andrew have agreed to one evening with them. Palm Swings is a small indie comedy about what happens to a marriage after a night you cannot take back.
What Happens After The First Party
The film is less about the swinging than about the morning after. Andrew enjoyed it more than he admits. Mandy did not enjoy it as much as she pretends. The neighbours have their own rules, and the rules start to crack when feelings get involved. Jason Mewes, from the Kevin Smith films, turns up as a local who runs a different kind of party, and Mircea Monroe plays Sophie with a cheer that hides the fact that she wants out of the whole lifestyle.
What To Expect
Sean Hoessli shot this on a low budget around the real Palm Springs mid-century houses and pools, and the setting does a lot of the work. It is a talky, slightly uncomfortable relationship comedy rather than the sex comedy the poster suggests. The ending lands the couple somewhere more honest than where they started. It is an adults-only film.
